Alberta Street is the neighborhood most guests end up wandering into without planning to, and that’s the right way to do it. It’s a dozen blocks of murals, small galleries, secondhand shops, and storefronts that haven’t been replaced by chains. No single attraction here — the point is walking the length of it and stopping when something looks interesting. Last Thursday of the month (April through September) the street closes to cars for an art walk, with vendors and street performers out; if your dates line up, go. Otherwise, any weekend afternoon works — shops tend to open late morning and the street stays easy well into evening. It’s a straightforward walk or short drive from the Piedmont homes, no parking hassle most days. Bring cash for the smaller vendors, though most shops take cards now. This isn’t a place with opening ceremonies or lines — it’s a place to slow down for an hour between checking in and figuring out dinner. Wear shoes you don’t mind walking a mile in and leave the itinerary loose.
